Presidential Job Description

Updated: Nov 4

Can you tell me what Trump and Harris are running for?

"Is this a trick question? How can you not know that? They are running to be elected President of the United States, moron."

True. But what is that job?

Does the President "run the country?" Is the President responsible for your happiness? Is he or she your UberDaddy?

Actually, never mind. Let's get more basic than that. The two most fundamental roles of government are:

  1. Secure the country from invasion, and

  2. Protect innocent citizens from people who would harm them or steal or destroy their property.

Everything beyond that is secondary.

"Hold up," you say. "What about the economy and education and welfare and ...?" Well, yeah, those things are important. In fact, the economy is vitally important, and the modern government has a significant impact on it (for better or worse), but the economy actually can, and has, flourished without much government meddling. And a healthy economy could theoretically provide most of the other things the government currently does - likely better.

What the government and only the government can do is protect us from invasion and protect us from the bad people among us.

"You're oversimplifying it!"

Yeah, a little (though not as much as you might think). At any rate, let's consider those two issues as fundamental to who should be the next president.

Once you do that, there is no question who to vote for. Just to state the obvious:

Kamala Harris has overseen a mind-numbing invasion of the United States across our southern border. It is almost impossible to overstate the problem and no way to excuse it. In fact, she doesn't try. Instead, she pretends she will fix it in the future. But if she knows how to fix the problem, why hasn't she done it?! She could do it tomorrow. Or could have done it a month ago. Or 3 months ago. Or proposed it to Biden 3 years ago.

It's worse than that. While we have had a problem for many years, the Biden-Harris policies have not mitigated it - they have turbocharged it.

Epic fail at Job One.

Meanwhile, Trump was focused on this issue - and on fixing it - way before most of us were.

Kamala Harris likes to brag she was a "prosecutor!" - to give the impression she was tough on crime. Of course, the opposite is true. Harris has ever been a leader (note even her book was lifted from others), but she certainly was a cog in the Democratic machine that made crime a serious problem in California. Remember, she was for defunding the police (and ICE - see above).

Harris is applying to us for a job. We are the hiring managers. She initially avoided job interviews we requested, but she has now acquiesced to some. They have not gone well. She can't directly answer a question. Her resume is thin, but it does show some limited experience with the key responsibilities in the job description. Unfortunately for her, we know how she performed in those responsibilities - horribly.

Meanwhile, we have another candidate who already had the job for four years and performed it well.

Not a tough choice.

Speaking of choice, what about abortion, the Democrats' pet issue - the only one they can promote without deliberately misrepresenting their record and/or position (at least as long as they use euphemisms to describe it).

Abortion could be a topic for multiple blogs (and already has been), but let's keep it to this for now:

Depending on your circumstances (especially how long you waited) you may have to travel, but if you want an abortion in the US, you can get one. After November 5th, even more state laws will become even more abortion friendly. Trump has consistently promised he will not change that. In fact, absent an election surprise no one predicts, he wouldn't even be able to.

It is irrational to vote for Kamala simply because she cackles about "women's reproductive health" more than Trump. What women (and men) deserve from their government, above anything else, is safety from criminals - both migrant and domestic.
